Dia 4o: Bienvenidos a Pontevedra/Welcome to Pontevedra

Hoy fue el primero día con nuestras familias de España. Nosotros pasamos la mañana paseándonos por Pontevedra, pero pasamos el resto del día con las familias Españolas. Por la mañana, tuvimos que despertarnos muy temprano. Eso fue porque tuvimos que salir para la excursión a Pontevedra. Todos los chicos vinieron a la estación del tren. Después de legar todos allí, nosotros empezamos a caminar. Caminamos mucho por Pontevedra. Tuvimos un guía que es la profesora de Frances en la escuela de los chicos Españoles. Aprendimos sobre la historia de Pontevedra, y visitamos un museo y las ruinas de una iglesia que fue construido en el siglo XIV. Después de las ruinas, caminamos a una panadería. En la panadería los pasteleros hicieron pan y las tortas. Los pasteleros nos dieron la masa y nosotros (Laure, Alex, Gaby, Charley, Katie, y Halley) hicimos croissants. Vimos como los pasteleros hacían pan, y vimos las máquinas que cocinan el pan en los hornos. Una de las chicas en el intercambio es de la familia del colegio CPI do Toural son dueños de panadería. Por eso visitamos la panadería. Después de visitar la panadería, fuimos al centro de la ciudad de Pontevedra. Encontramos unas escaleras para sentarnos en la Iglesia de la Peregrina. La Maestra nos dio una hora para visitar las tiendas de Pontevedra y comprar algunas cosas. Algunos de los chicos estaban cansados y no hicieron nada, y los otros solamente tomaron helado. Algunos de los chicos visitaron las tiendas. Pontevedra es más pequeña que Madrid. No hace mucho calor en Pontevedra, porque esta cerca del mar. Cuando nosotros estábamos afuera, necesitamos las chaquetes porque estaba nublado. En Pontevedra las tiendas cierran a las dos de la tarde para comer y las siestas. Eso es diferente que los Estados Unidos, donde las tiendas solamente cierran una vez al fin del día. Es más fácil hablar con nuestras familias hoy que ayer, pero unas algunas veces ellos hablan muy rápido. La comida en Pontevedra es muy buena, y hay muchos mariscos en la comida. Eso es porque Pontevedra está muy cerca del mar.

Today was the first day with our families from Spain. We spent the morning walking around Pontevedra, but spent the rest of the day with our respective Spanish families. In the morning we woke up early. That's because we to travel to the center of Pontevedra. All the kids met at the train station. After we were all there, we started walking. We walked a lot around Ponteverdra. We had a guide who is a French teacher in the CPI do Toural where our Spanish siblings attend school. We learned about the history of Pontevedra, and visited a museum and the ruins of a church that was built in the 14th century. After the ruins, we walked to a bakery. In the bakery the bakers make bread and cakes. We (Laure, Alex, Gaby, Charley, Katie, and Halley) made croissants with the dough that the bakers gave us. We saw the bakers make bread, and saw the machines that bake the bread. One of the families from the CPI do Toural owns the bakery. That's why we were allowed to visit the bakery.  After visiting the bakery, we went to the center of Pontevedra. We found some stairs to sit and relax on. Maestra gave us an hour to visit the shops and buy some stuff. A few kids visited stores, but mostly we sat around and ate ice cream. The city of Pontevedra is smaller than Madrid and it is not too hot, because it is near the sea. When we go out we need to bring jackets. In Pontevedra the stores close at two in the afternoon for lunch and siesta. This is just one example of the differing culture in Spain and the U.S., where stores close only once at the end of the day. It's easier to talk to our families today than it was yesterday, but they still speak very fast occasionally. The food is very good in Pontevedra, and there is a lot of seafood because Pontevedra is near the sea.
