Dia 16o: Santiago de Compostela

Hoy fuimos a la ciudad de Santiago, que está casi 50 kilómetros de Pontevedra. El tren salió a las 9:23, así que tuvimos que estar en la estación a las nueve. Durante el viaje, hablé con mis amigos de los Estados Unidos y de aquí, y por eso el viaje parecía como si fuera diez minutos, aunque en realidad fue casi una hora. Primero, fuimos a la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela. Teníamos una guía, y estaba orgullosa porque yo pude entender la mayoría de lo que ella dijo, aunque ella habló muy rápida – estoy segura que mi Castellano ha mejorado mucho este viaje, porque antes del viaje no podría entenderla. Ella explicó un poco de la historia de la Catedral. La construcción empezó en el siglo XI, pero llevó mucho tiempo, así que personas solamente podían visitarla por 800 años, que todavía es muchísimo tiempo. La catedral era tan bonita – yo no soy cristiana, pero todavía me di cuenta de su belleza. Había muchas estatuas de ángeles, y todo era de oro. También escuchamos a un miembro de la iglesia, que dijo que había gente allí de Italia, Francia, Alemán, Estados Unidos (¡nosotros!) – de todo el mundo. En la misa, escuchamos a las canciones en latín, y antes de salir algunas personas dieron abrazos a una estatua en un santuario por buena suerte (es una superstición). Después, tuvimos un poco tiempo para relajar. Yo comí con mis amigos – nuestros “padres” nos habían hecho bocadillos ricos. También dimos un poco a los pájaros – habían muchos. Después de comer, fuimos de compras. ¡Finalmente acabé de comprar cosas para mi familia y mis amigos – no puedo decir exactamente lo que compro, pero son regalos fantásticos! Sin embargo, era cómico que todos los tiendas tuvieran las mismas muñecas para precios diferentes, así que podrías ver el precio de esos muñecas para saber si la tienda era barata o demasiada cara. También compramos helado y bebidas de un café. A las cinco y media, reunimos en el parque. Anduvimos a la estación de tren, hablando sobre las cosas que compramos. El tren salió a las 6:30, y regresamos a las 7:20. Tenía una hora y media para descansar, y entonces yo y Clara fuimos a un café, donde reunimos con mas o menos quince otras personas del intercambio. Bebimos y hablamos por una hora, y después anduvimos a una bocatería, donde cenamos. Ahora estoy muy cansada, ¡pero esté día estuvo muy divertido!

Today we went to the city of Santiago, which is almost 50 kilometers from Pontevedra. The train left at 9:23, so we had to be in the train station at 9. During the trip, I talked to my friends from the U.S. and from here, so the trip seemed like it was only ten minutes, even though it was really almost an hour. First, we went to the Cathedral of Santiago of Compostela. We had a guide, and I was proud because I could understand most of what she said, even though she spoke very rapidly – I am sure that my Spanish has improved a lot in this trip, because before I couldn´t have understood her. She explained a little of the history of the Cathedral. The construction began in the 11th century, but it took a lot of time, so people have only been able to visit it for 800 years, which is still a lot of time. The cathedral was so beautiful – I´m not Christian, but I still appreciated it´s beauty. There were many statues of angels, and everything was made of gold. We also listened to a member of the church, who told us that there were people there from Italy, France, Germany, the U.S. (like us!) – from all over the world. In the mass, we listened to the songs in Latin, and before leaving some people gave hugs to a statue in a shrine for good luck (it´s a superstition). Afterwords, we had a little time for relaxing. I ate with my friends – our “parents” had made us delicious sandwiches. We also gave some to the birds – there were lots of them. After eating, we went shopping. I finally finished shopping for my friends and family – I can´t say exactly what I bought, but they´re great gifts! However, it was funny that each store had the same doll, but with different prices, so you could figure out whether a store was cheap or overpriced by seeing the price of that doll. We also bought ice cream and drinks from a café. At 5:30, we rejoined in the park. We walked to the train station, talking about the things we had bought. The train left at 6:30, and we returned at 7:20. I had about an hour and a half to relax, and then Clara and I went to a café, where we met with about 15 people from the exchange. We drank and talked for an hour, after which we walked to a sandwich shop, where we ate dinner. Now I am tired, but today was a lot of fun!

Dia 14o: En Familia: Primeras Comuniones

Hoy, tuve el honor de ir a la primera comunión de Martín Piay González; un vecino de mi hermana Española que se llama Carla. Soy protestante y esta fue mi primera comunión también. La iglesia, que se llama la Iglesia Parroquial de San Martín de Vilaboa, no es grande por eso toda la gente hoy no pudo entrar en la iglesia. También no pude sacar fotos del interior de la iglesia. Fue como una boda en los Estados Unidos. Fue mucha gente, una banda, y una alfombra de flores. Los chicos, que tienen ocho años, llevaron trajes blancos como la gente de la armada. El cura de la iglesia canto los oficios y entonces algunas chicas cantaron. Después del servicio, todos los chicos, que hicieron la primera comunión hoy, siguieron el cura en un circulo caminando encima de la alfombra de flores. Luego hubo una fiesta para Martín. Hubo siete platos de comida del mar, carne, pescado, y postre. Un postre fue la tarta de comunión, que Martín corto con una espada como los de la armada. La comida fue maravillosa pero tuve que probar todo y fue mucho. Le pregunte a la abuela de Martín cuantos nietos tenia y por eso conocí todo la gente en la fiesta. Solamente la familia y los vecinos fueron a la fiesta y así conocí a toda la gente en la comunión. También, pude practicar mi español (o castellano, como la gente aquí llama al español). La comunión empezó a las 12h30 y termino a las 21h30. Aquí, la primera comunión es muy importante. La gente que no son muy religiosas van a las comuniones porque la iglesia es como una familia; una comunidad de tradiciones y cultura. Directamente después de la celebración Carla y yo fuimos a la Cantera. La Cantera es un lugar en Pontevedra donde todos las fiesta hay. Esta noche hubo un concierto de rock y todas las bandas son de Pontevedra o cerca de Pontevedra. Muchas noches, los americanos y nuestros hermanos españoles se reúnen allí. Esta noche también. Nosotros hablamos, en español, sobre nuestros días y el viaje.

Today I had the honor of going to the first communion of Martin Piay Gonzalez, a neighbor of my Spanish sister, Carla. I am protestant so this was my first communion too. The church, la Iglesia Parroquial de San Martin Vilaboa, is large but was not large enough to fit all of the people today. Also, I was not able to take photos of the interior of the church. It was like a wedding in the United States. There were a lot of people, a band and a rug of flowers in the street. The children, who are eight years old and had their first communion today. The girls wore white dresses and the boys suits like the men in the Navy. The priest of the church sang all of the prayers and was followed by a few girls. After the service, all of the children followed the Father around in a circle on the rug handmade of petals from flowers. Then there was a party for Martin. There were seven courses of seafood, meat, fish and desert. One of the deserts was the communion cake, which Martin cut with a sword from the Navy. The food was wonderful but I had to try it all and there was a lot. I asked Martin’s grandmother how many grandchildren she has and because of that I was able to meet all of the people at the party. Only family members and neighbors were at the party but with the help of a few people I soon knew everyone well. I was also able to practice my Spanish there (or Castellano, as the people here refer to it). The communion began at 12:30 and ended at 9:30pm. Here the first communion is very important. The people who are not very religious go to the first communions because the church is like a family –a community of traditions and culture. Directly after the communion, Carla and I went to the Cantera. The Cantera is a place in Pontevedra where they hold all of the parties. Tonight there was a rock concert and all of the bands where from Pontevedra or around Pontevedra. A lot of nights, the Americans and their Spanish siblings meet there. Tonight was no different. We spoke, in Spanish, about our days and the trip.

Dia 13o: En Familia: Portugal

Hoy fue otro día para que los Americanos estuvieran solos con sus familias españolas. Yo fuí a Portugal con JC y nuestros hermanos españoles, Michael y Borja. La madre y tía de Michael, y los abuelos de Borja, viajaron también. Usamos dos coches. Salimos de la casa de Michael a las 10h00. En Portugal es una hora menos de España, así que nosotros llegamos a la ciudad de Porto a las 11h00, aunque el viaje tomó dos horas. Cuando llegamos, fuimos a la estación tren para ver los azulejos en las paredes. La estación tren es muy antigua, como mucho de la ciudad. La estación tren fue construido en 1916. Sacamos muchas fotos en Porto. La mayoría de las fotos son cómicas. ¡Me gusta hacer caras cómicas en las fotos! Después de la estación tren, caminamos a la Avenue dos Alíados, la "Gran Vía" de Porto. La Avenue dos Alíados tiene cafés pequeños y tiendas turísticas. Nosotros tomamos un bocadillo en una café bellísimo. Como siempre, bebí una Coca Cola. De hecho, todas las personas en el grupo bebieron Coca Cola. Hacia muy calor hoy. Las temperaturas eran altas. Entonces caminamos al lado de la Ría Douro, la ría segundo más grande de Portugal. ¡La ría miró azul como cielo! Quería saltar en la ría, pero estaba sucio y yo no tenia un traje de baño. Almorzamos en un restaurante cerca de la ría. Michael, Borja y yo comimos carne, mientras JC comió pulpo. Yo traté un trozo de su pulpo. !Fue muy bien (pero la comida de mi madre es mejor)! Después del almuerzo, conducimos al Estadio do Dragaó, un estadio de fútbol y la casa de FC Porto, un equipo con mucho éxito. Me encanta fútbol, así yo gocé el estadio mucho. Yo compré una camiseta de FC Porto en el estadio. Entonces, regresamos a los coches y conducimos a España. Portugal es un país muy interesante y compleja. Por un día, yo vi este país y su belleza.

Today was another day for Americans to be alone with their Spanish host families. I went to Portugal with JC and our Spanish brothers, Michael and Borja. The mother and aunt of Michael, and grandparents of Borja, traveled as well. We took two cars. We left Michael's house at 10:00am. Portugal is one hour behind Spain, and we arrived in Porto at 11:00am, although the trip took two hours. When we arrived, we went to the train station to see the tiles on the walls. The train station is very old, like much of the city. The train station was built in 1916. We took many pictures in Porto. Most of the photos are funny. I like making funny faces in the pictures! After the train station, we walked to the Avenue dos Alíados, the "Great Way" of Porto. The Avenue dos Alíados has small cafes and tourist shops. We had a snack in a beautiful cafe. As always, I drank a Coke. In fact, all of the people in the group drank Coca Cola. It was very hot today. The temperatures were high. Next we walked beside the River Douro, the second largest river in Portugal. The river looked as blue as the sky! I wanted to jump in the river, but it was dirty and I did not have a bathing suit. We ate lunch at a restaurant near the river. Michael, Borja and I ate meat, while JC ate octopus. I tried a piece of octopus. It was very good (but my mother's cooking is better)! After lunch, we drove to the Estadio do Dragao, a soccer stadium and the home of FC Porto, a very successful team. I love soccer, so I enjoyed the stadium a lot. I bought a shirt of FC Porto in the stadium. We returned to the cars and drove back to Spain. Portugal is a very interesting and complex nation. For one day, I saw this country and its beauty.

Dia 12o: En Familia: Plan Relax

Hoy fue un gran día porque yo finalmente pude dormir hasta tarde. Las dos noches pasadas, yo estaba despierto hasta muy tarde en fiestas y no regresé a casa hasta tarde por la mañana. Pero hoy, dormí hasta 12:00 por la tarde. Este era una cosa buena porque yo estaba muy cansado. Después de que me levantarme, yo me vestí y luego anduve a la cocina para el desayuno. Cuando mi familia me vio, ellos comenzaron a reírse porque ellos se acostaron mucho antes. Después del desayuno, descansé más con mi hermano español, Jesús. Jugamos a videojuegos y miramos la televisión. También durante este tiempo, jugué a fútbol y baloncesto con Jesús y mi hermana española y padre. Fue muy divertido pasar tiempo con toda mi familia. Entonces comimos el almuerzo como una familia, y después, Jesús y yo fuimos a la playa con algunas otras personas en nuestro grupo. Me puse muy bronceado la vez pasada que estábamos en la playa, entonces me aseguré de ponerme mucha protección SPF esta vez. Yo también me divertí mucho en la playa. Jugamos algunos deportes, nadamos en el agua, y nos encontramos a otros niños españoles que no están en el programa. Yo comí más comida mientras estaba en la playa. He comido tanto desde que hemos estado en España porque mi abuela Española es una cocinera muy buena. Jesús y yo volvimos a casa y nos preparamos para comer la cena. Me duché y me puse la nueva ropa antes de salirnos. Alrededor 10h30, fuimos a un restaurante para encontrarnos con algunos niños quien habían estado en la playa con nosotros. Había también algunos niños en el restaurante que no estaban en la playa antes. Yo, y la mayor parte de las personas, pedimos hamburguesas. Cuando terminamos de comer, fuimos a una café cerca del restaurante. Jugamos futbolín y dados y también pasamos más tiempo juntos. Entonces, Jesús y yo regresamos a casa para el resto de la noche. Hoy fue un día muy divertido y relajante, y quiero que mañana sea similar.

Today started out as a great day because I finally was able to sleep late. The past two nights, I was awake very late at parties and did not return home until late in the morning. But today, I slept until 12:00. This was a good thing because I was very tired the past few days. After I woke up, I dressed myself and then walked to the kitchen for breakfast. When my family saw me, they started laughing because they had woken up much earlier. After breakfast, I rested some more with my Spanish brother, Jesus. We played video games and watched television. Also during this time, I played soccer and basketball with Jesus and my Spanish sister and father. It was fun to spend time with all of my family. We then ate lunch as a family, and after Jesus and I went to the beach with some other people in our group. I became very sunburn the last time that we were at the beach, so I made sure to put on a lot of protection this time. I also had a lot of fun at the beach. We played some sports, swam in the water, and met other Spanish kids who are not in the program. I ate even more food while at the beach. I have eaten so much since we have been in Spain because my grandmother is such a good cook. Jesus and I returned back home and prepared to go to dinner. I showered and put on new clothes before we left. At around 10:30, we went to a restaurant to meet some of the same kids that we were at the beach with. There were also some kids at the restaurant who were not at the beach earlier. Most of us ordered hamburgers. When we were done eating, when went to a cafe near the restaurant. We played foosball and darts and also spent more time together. Then, Jesus and I returned home for the rest of the night. Today was a fun and restful day, and I look forward to tomorrow being similar.

Dia 11o: En Familia: La Fiesta de San Juan

Hoy fuimos a un excurccion porque queriamos ver el barco de Cristobal Colon. Necesitamos levantarnos a las seis porque necesitamos coger el autobus en la escuela. El barco era interesante, y cuando estaba a dentro el barco muchos personas querian conducir el barco. El pueblo donde esta el barco es muy bonita y tiene muchas tiendas para comprar camisetas y chancletas. Tambien tiene restuarantes y cafeterias, muchas estudiantes comieron o comparon helado y sentiron en el sol. Otro estudiantes caminaron en el calle o se sentaron y miraron el paisaje. El pueblo se llama Baiona. Tambien fuimos al puerto de Vigo y miramos muchos pescados. El mas grande pescado fue el pez de espada. Un pez de espada era diez pies largo. El puerto holia muy mal, y el suelo estaba mojado con sangre. Nosotros miramos peces de espada, los pescados pequenos, tiburrones y otros que no se el nombre por. Despues fuimos a casa y vestimos para una fiesta en la noche. A la noche fuimos a la fiesta de San Juan. En la fiesta, la musica era de España, entonces los Americanos estaban en el parque. Nosotros hablamos con todos los Españoles de todo. Los jovenes staban tirarado fuegos artificiales. Nosotros tuvimos mucho meido porque los fuegos artificiales era fuertes. Despues explotaron una bolla de fuego muy alto. Era bonita y cuando estaba pequeno gente saltaron el fuego. La fiesta era super guay pero muchos los Americanos y Españoles hablaron. A las dos y media nosotros fuimos a casa.

Today we went on a trip to Vigo because we wanted to see one of the three ships of Columbus. We needed to wake up at six in the morning because we needed to catch the bus at school. The ship was interesting and when we were on the ship, people would pretend to drive the ship. The city where the ship was in was very nice and had many stores where one could buy clothes and sandals. The town also had many nice restaurants and cafes, many students ate or bought ice cream and enjoyed the sun. Other students walked around and or sat and looked at the beautiful landscape. The town´s name was Bayona. We also went to the Port of Vigo where we saw many fish. The biggest fish was the swordfish, one was 10 feet long. The port smelled terrible, and the floor was wet with blood and fish guts. We saw swordfish, small fish, sharks and other fish which will remain nameless because I don´t know the name. After we went home and got dressed for the party. Later we went to the party of San Juan. At the party the music was all Spanish, therefore, all the Americans were in the park. We talked with all of the Spanish students. Little kids were liting off fireworks. They scared us because they were really loud. After they made a huge bonfire. it was so beautiful and when it got smaller people would jump over it. The party was cool and the American students and the Spanish students bonded a lot. We all went home around two or three in the morning.

Dia 10o:CPI do Toural y el Festival del Colegio

Hoy, el grupo de Americanos fueron a la escuela de algunos de los chicos españoles. El colegio se llama Toural. Los estudiantes llegaron al colegio a las 9. Cuando los estudiantes llegaron a la escuela, primero los estudiantes se juntaron en la biblioteca del colegio Toural. La biblioteca del Toural es buena. La biblioteca cuenta con tres mesas con muchas sillas alrededor de las mesas, y un círculo de sillas grandes, alrededor de una mesa pequeña. La biblioteca en el Toural tiene tres ordenadores para los estudiantes, y un ordinador para el profesor de la biblioteca. La computadora en la biblioteca tiene internet de alta velocidad. Las computadoras en la biblioteca de Toural son diferentes de los que están en Newark Academia, porque los estudiantes de la Academia Newark tienen sus propias cuentas, y la computadoras en Newark Academia son Macs. La biblioteca en el Toural tiene muchos libros. Los libros son muy interesantes. Todos los libros son escritos en español. Después de juntarse en la biblioteca,los profesores nos hablaron de España y nos dieron dinero. A continuación, los estudiantes fueron a la cocina para desayunar en el Toural, la escuela. La cocina en Toural tiene dos largas mesas para comer. El desayuno, los estudiantes comieron churros y chocolate caliente. Los estudiantes mojaban los churros en el chocolate y se comian el churro. Today the group of Americans went to the school of some of the Spanish kids. The school is called Toural. The students arrived at the school at around 9 o´clock. When the students arrived at the school, first the students gathered in the library of the school Toural. The library at Toural is good. The library has three tables with many chairs around the tables, and a circle of big, comfortable chairs around a small table. The library in Toural has three computers for the students, and one computer for the teacher of the library. The computers at the library have fast internet. The computers at the library in Toural are different from the ones at Newark Academy because the students at Newark Academy have their own accounts, and the computers at Newark Academy are Macs. The library in Toural has many books. The books are very interesting. All of the books are written in Spanish. After the students gathered in the library, the teachers talked to us about Spain and gave us money. Next, the students went to the kitchen to eat breakfast at the school Toural. The kitchen at Toural has two long tables for people to eat at. The breakfast that the students ate was churros and hot chocolate. The students dipped the churros into the chocolate and ate the churro. After breakfast, the students took a tour of the school. After the tour was over, the students gathered again in the library, and then went to a festival that was being held by the students at Toural. The festival had many different types of celebration. Many students danced, and there were a few skits acted out by the students. The dances and the skits were very cute. Once the festival was over, the American students went to play soccer, and then the American students went to our houses.

Dia 9o: Las Batias de Mejillones y St. Vicente

Hoy fue mi día favorita en España. El día empezó cunado yo me levanto. Yo tuve mucho sueno esta mañana porque ayer necesité escribir mi diario. Yo y los otros chicos no nos gustan los diarios porque necesitamos escribir muchas palabras y es difícil. Hoy fue mi favorito día porque todo fue excelente. Después de levantarme y ducharme mi abuela Española cocino desayuno para mi. Para el desayuno yo comí huevos, bacón, chorizo, pan tostado y patatas fritas. Yo tome leche caliente para el desayuno también. Mi abuela es un chef muy buena. Ella le encanta cocinar y ella esta muy triste cuando yo no como mucho. No me gusta cuando ella esta triste. Después de mi desayuno Borja y yo fuimos a la escuela de Borja. Necesitamos tomar un coche por quince minutos para ir a su escuela. Cuando nosotros llegamos a su escuela los otros estudiantes no estaban allí. Borja y yo necesitamos esperar para los otros estudiantes. Cuando los otros estudiantes llegaron nosotros fuimos en un autobús. El autobús nos llevo al océano. Nosotros estuvimos en el autobús por un hora. El autobús nos llevo a un puerto. En el Puerto había muchos barcos. Nosotros tomamos un barco muy grande. En el barco nosotros sacamos muchas fotos del océano y de los otros estudiantes. El barco fue a las batías (granjas de ostras, almejas, mejillones). En el barco comimos los mejillones de una batía. Los mejillones estaban muy frescos y muy deliciosos. Yo comí muchos mejillones pero Maestra comió mas que todos las otros personas en el barco. Después de comer nosotros regresamos al puerto. Nosotros fuimos al autobús y el autobús nos llevo a una montaña al lado del océano. Cuando estábamos encima de la montaña nosotros sacamos muchas fotos del océano. Yo y Alex y Alex y Matt jugamos con un futbol Americano. No fue un idea buena. Yo pienso Maestra tiene el futbol ahora ☺ Después del puerto y la montaña , nosotros fuimos a una playa para el almuerzo. Para el almuerzo, mi abuela cocino un sándwich con pollo y un sándwich con bistec. Todos los estudiantes tuvieron mucho comida para el almuerzo. Jugamos al futbol americano con los estudiantes de Pontevedra. Cuando fueron las cuatro en punto, regresamos al autobús. En el viaje a Pontevedra muchos estudiantes durmieron. Fue un día muy largo. Fue mi día favorito en España.

Today was my favorite day in Spain. The day began when I woke up. I was very tired when I woke up because I had to write my journal yesterday. The other kids and I do not like the journals because we have to write a lot of words and it is difficult. Today was my favorite day because everything was excellent. After I woke up and showered my Spanish grandmother cooked breakfast for me. For breakfast I ate eggs, bacon, chorizo, and french fries. I also drank hot milk for breakfast. My grandmother is a very good cook. She loves cooking, and is sad when I do not eat a lot. I do not like it when she is sad. After my breakfast Borja and I went to his school. We needed to take a car for fifteen minutes to get to his school. When we reached his school the other students were not there yet. Borja and I needed to wait for the other students. When they arrived we went on the bus. The bus first took us to the ocean. We were in the bus for about one hour. We finally arrived at a port on the ocean. They were lots of boats in the harbor, and we boarded a very big one. This boat took us to farms for muscles, oysters, and clams. On the boat they served us fresh mussels that had just been harvested from one of the farms. They were incredibly fresh and very delicious. I ate lots of mussels but I think Maestra ate more than everyone else combined. After the boat took us back to the port, we returned to the bus. The bus then took us to the top of a mountain where we could look down on the ocean and take pictures. While on top of the mountain Matt, Alex, Alex, and I decided to play football. It was not a good idea. I think Maestra still has the ball. After the ocean and the mountain we went to a beach for lunch. For lunch my grandmother made me a chicken sandwich and a beef sandwich. Everybody was given way too much food for lunch. After lunch we took lots of pictures of each other and the scenery. We played American football with the Spanish students. At four o’clock we returned to the bus. It was a long ride back and lots of kids slept. It was my favorite day in Spain.

Dia 8o: CPI Padin Truiteiro y El Castillo de Sotomayor

Hoy, yo hice muchas cosas. Primero, yo fui a la biblioteca con Jono y Charlie, porque nosotros vivimos muy cerca de nosotros, peor no estamos cerca de las otras personas. Nosotros vivimos en Pontevedra, y todos los otros niños viven en Vilaboa. Porque nosotros no estamos cerca de los otros niños, no pasamos tanto tiempo con ellos. Pero, nosotros estamos muy cerca de todas las cosas en Pontevedra. A la hora que nosotros llegamos a la escuela en Arcade, todas las personas en el grupo escuchamos la música de niños Españoles. La música fue muy diferente que la música de los Estados Unidos. Pero en la radio, hay muchas canciones americanas. Yo estaba muy sorprendido porque la música que le gusta a mi hermano le gusta no es de España, pero de los Estados Unidos. Xòan le gusta música de tecno. Maestra me dijo que a todo el mundo le gusta la música de los Estados Unidos. Yo estoy muy sorprendido porque ellos no entienden las palabras, pero les gusta el ritmo. Pero en la escuela de Arcade, nosotros visitamos muchas clases de niños pequeños. Los niños pequeños nos regalaron la letra “Ñ” porque no existe en el alfabeto de los EEUU y quieren que nosotros podamos decir España. Luego, nosotros jugamos un partido de fútbol, y nosotros les ganamos a los Españoles. Después, nosotros fuimos a visitar un castillo de Sotomayor que es muy viejo –tiene 600 años. También, el alcalde, Agustin Reguera Ocampo, nos dio la bienvenida y hablo con nosotros. Durante nuestro viaje, nosotros comimos, y bebimos bebidas mientras un grupo de gaiteros toco música de Galicia. Yo comí gambas y jamón. El jamón de España es mejor que el jamón de los Estados Unidos. En el castillo, yo también bebí una Coca-Cola. Después, nosotros regresamos a Arcade, y la madre de Jono uso un coche para nosotros (Charlie, Jono, y yo) regresamos a Pontevedra. Ahora yo estoy en Pontevedra, yo juego el Wii con Xòan. Nosotros jugamos los juegos Mario Kart y Super Smash Bos´s Brawl. Luego, yo comí la cena y compré otro balón de fútbol. Porque el otro balón de fútbol se rompió. Pero tiene 3 días garantía, y nosotros recibimos un otro balón de fútbol nuevo. Es muy diferente que los Estados Unidos. Luego, yo regresé a mí casa, comí la cena, tomé una ducha, y fui a hablar con mi familia.

Today, I did lots of things. First, I went to the library with Jono and Charlie, because we live very close to each other, but we are not very close to the other people. We live in Pontevedra, and everyone else lives in Vilaboa. Because we are not near the other kids, we do not spend as much time with them. But we are very near to all of the things in Pontevedra. The moment we arrived in the school in Arcade, everyone in the group listened to music by the Spanish kids. The music was very different than the music the United States. But on the radio, there are lots of American songs. I was very surprised because the music my Spanish brother likes is not from Spain, but it is from the United States. Xòan likes techno music. Maestra told me that the entire world likes the music of the United States. I am very surprised because they do not understand the words, but they like the beat. Anyhow, in the school of Arcade, we visited the classrooms of small kids. The first grade students gave us the letter “Ñ” as a gift because we do not have it in our American alphabet and they want us to be able to say España. Afterwards, we played a game of soccer, and we beat the Spanish kids. Next, we visited the Sotomayor Castle that is 600 years old. The mayor of Sotamayor, Agustin Reguera Ocampo, threw us a welcome party and gave us a tour of the castle. During the visit, we ate food and drank drinks while a live band of bagpipers played traditional music from Galicia. I ate shrimp and ham. The ham in Spain known as "jamon serrano" is better than the ham in the United States. In the castle, I also drank Coca-Cola. Next, we returned to Arcade, and the Jono´s Spanish mother drove us (Charlie, Jono, and I) back to Pontevedra. When I got back to my flat, I played the Wii with Xòan. We played the games Mario Kart and Super Smash Bro´s Brawl. After, I ate my dinner and bought a different soccer ball, because the other ball broke. But we had a 3 day guarantee and we received a different, new, soccer ball in exchange. It’s very different in the United States. After, I returned to my house, took a shower, and went to talk to my family.

Dia 7o: En Familia: Las Islas Cies

Hoy nosotros fuimos a la playa. Nosotros necesitamos despertarnos un poco temprano para ir al barco antes de salir. Nosotros tuvimos que ir al puerto de Vigo porque era de donde salía el barco. Cuando llegamos al puerto, nosotros esperamos por casi una media hora hasta que el barco saliera. Cuando yo llegue al puerto me sorprendí que mis profesoras estaban allí también porque yo pensaba que la excursión era solo con las familias. Después de embarcar y subimos las escaleras del barco para tener una vista mejor. Y esto fue una buen decisión porque la vista fue magnifica. Nosotros fuimos en el barco por 30 minutos y nosotros hablamos de muchos cosas y vimos un panorámica magnifica desde el barco. Luego nosotros lleguemos a la isla y era muy bonita y parecía como la isla de Lost. Al desembarcar, sacamos una foto y después yo y los otros Americanos aprendimos que necesitábamos cambiarnos nuestros trajes de baño en publico con un toalla porque los baños siempre tienen unas colas muy largas. Después de cambiarnos, nosotros fuimos a la playa y yo y los otros estudiantes del intercambio empezamos a jugar con una pelota y otros tomaron el sol. Después de jugar con la pelota nosotros quisimos descansar un poco y por eso fuimos a tomar el sol también. A continuación, almorzamos y hablamos y esto también fue divertido, y después de eso nosotros empezamos a jugar otro juego con la pelota y todos los alumnos jugar este juego. Este juego parece el juego de los Estados Unidos se llama Dodgeball y en España se brile. Después de jugar, nosotros descansamos un poco mas y después caminamos y subimos a una montanita para ver la panorámica que fue buenísima. Pudimos ver el océano por muchas millas y pudimos ver toda la isla y fue fantástico. Luego, necesitamos correr un poco para llegar al barco porque íbamos un poco tarde. Al final, nosotros salimos de la isla en el barco y nosotros fuimos a nuestras casas y dijimos adiós a los otros alumnos y a las profesoras.

Today we went to the beach. We had to wake up a little early to go to the boar before it left. We had to go to the Port of Vigo because that’s where the boat leaves from. When we got to the port we had to wait close to a half an hour before the boat would leave. When I arrived at the port it surprised me that the teachers were there also because I thought it was would be just with the families. When we got on the boat we climbed stairs to the top of the boat to have a better view. And that was a good decision because the view was magnificent. We were on the boat for minutes and we talked about many things and looked at the view for all the time that we were on the boat. Then we arrived to the island, which was very beautiful and resembled the island from Lost. After disembarking, we took a photo and the Americans learned that we needed to change into our bathing suits in public with a towel because the bathrooms always have long lines. After we changed we went to the beach and some began to play with a ball and others began to sunbathe. After we were done playing with the ball we wanted to relax and sunbathe too. Shortly afterwards, we ate our lunches and talked and that was fun, then we began to play another game with the ball and every student played this game. This game resembled the American game called Dodgeball. After playing we rested for a little more and then we walked and climbed a little mountain to see another great view. The panoramic view was great, and we could see the ocean for miles and could view all of the island, it was fantastic. After that we needed to run a little bit in order to arrive at the boat because we were a little late. Finally we left the island by means of the boat and went to our respective houses and said goodbye to the other students and to the teachers.
