Finalmente, después de casi tres semanas, nuestra ultimo día en España llegó. Anoche nosotros salimos de Pontevedra en un tren y llegamos a la Estación Chamartín en Madrid a las ocho de la mañana. En el tren teníamos habitaciones con cuatro camas y un lavabo. El tren era muy grande y tenía muchos coches con habitaciones. También había un restaurante y un bar en el tren donde algunos de nosotros compramos algo para comer y beber. El tren era un experiencia diferente y nueva para nosotros. Cuando llegamos en la estación después de desayunar en el tren, fuimos a nuestro hotel en Metro.
Cuando llegamos nosotros pusimos nuestras maletas en el hotel y fuimos al Museo de La Reñía Sofía, el museo de arte moderna de Madrid. Allí vimos la obra antiguerra famosa de Pablo Picasso, Guernica que Maestra ya nos ha explicado mucho sobre Guernica. Luego caminamos por una hora en el museo para ver mas cuadros de artistas famosas como Salvador Dalí y Joan Miro además de Picasso. Entonces, nosotros paseamos por las calles de Madrid a otro museo famoso en la ciudad, el Thyssen para almorzar en su restaurante. Durante el almuerzo nosotros celebramos el cumpleaños de Rob quien cumple 16 años el 3 de Julio.
Al terminar el postre regresamos al hotel en metro donde recibimos nuestras habitaciones y disfrutamos de una siesta por cuatro horas. Yo me relajé en mi sala por mucho del tiempo pero al final algunos de nosotros salimos del hotel compramos algo y comimos una merienda en un Bar de Tapas. Había mucho Jamón Serrano colgado de las paredes.
A las siete y media nosotros nos reunimos en hotel para ir a cenar. Mientras nosotros caminamos al restaurante, el Desfile de Orgullo Gay de Madrid y todas las festividades estaban empezando. Por la noche no hubo coches en la Gran Vía y había muchísimo gente celebrando. Por eso el camino al restaurante duro mas de medía hora y cenamos por ultima vez el restaurante Gloria de Montera con el postre famoso, el Chocolatísimo.
Después de la cena regresamos al hotel para poner algunas cosas en las habitaciones antes de salir para pasar tiempo en el desfile. Cuando nosotros estábamos en el desfile, parecia mas una fiesta grande que un desfile y había muchos miles de personas durante todo la noche en todo la Gran Vía terminando con una discoteca en la Plaza de España. Nosotros caminamos por la calle y por final fuimos a “la discoteca” que se estableció en la plaza donde nosotros estábamos muy cerca del frente con muchos tipos diferentes de personas. Después de mas o menos una hora bailando, regresamos al hotel para terminar nuestra ultima noche en España.
Mañana nosotros regresaremos a los Estados Unidos después de tres semanas increíbles. Nosotros queremos decir gracias a Maestra McNeily-Anta y Maestra Mahler por organizar todo y también a nuestros padres por esta experiencia. Ahora puedo decir que nosotros hemos disfrutado de una verdadera inmersión lingüística en España y de la vida Española.
Nos despedimos desde España y hasta pronto, | Finally, after almost three weeks, our final day in Spain arrived. Last night we departed Pontevedra on an overnight train and arrived at Madrid Chanmartín Station at eight in the morning. In the train we had rooms with four beds and a sink. The train was very big and had many cars filled with different types of bedrooms. There also was a full service restaurant with an adjacent bar where some of us bought food and drinks. The train was a different and new experience for all of us. When we arrived in Madrid after breakfast onboard the train we travelled to our hotel in the metro.
When we arrived, we put our bags in the hotel and then left for Madrid’s Modern Art Museum, The Renia Sofia. There we saw Pablo Picasso’s famous anti-regime painting, Guernica that Maestra McNeily-Anta had already explained to us. After seeing Guernica, we spent an hour walking through the museum and saw works by artists such as Salvador Dali and Joan Miro in addition to those of Picasso. Then, we walked through the streets of Madrid to one of Madrid’s other famous museums, the Thyssen. We ate lunch at a restaurant inside the museum and during our meal, we celebrated Rob’s birthday, who turns 16 on July 3rd.
After finishing the cake, we returned to the hotel by metro and when we arrived, we received our rooms and then had a four-hour siesta. I relaxed in my room for most of the time and towards the end a group of us went out to walk around the city and eat a snack at a tapas bar. There were entire legs of Serrano Ham hanging from its walls.
At 7:30 we met in the lobby of the hotel to go to dinner. While we were walking to the restaurant, the festivities of the Gay Pride Parade of Madrid were beginning. For the whole evening and night there were no cars on Gran Via and there were many people celebrating. Therefore our walk to the restaurant took over a half hour. We ate dinner at Gloria de Montera, the same restaurant with the famed dessert, the Chocolatisimo.
After dinner, we returned to our hotel to leave some items in our rooms before leaving to spend time at the parade. Once we were at the parade, it was more of a massive party with hundreds of thousands of people out all night on the Gran Via ending with a huge dance party in the Plaza de España. We walked down the street and eventually went to “the discoteca” where we were close to the front with people from all different walks of life. After about an hour dancing, we returned to the hotel to end our final night in Spain.
Tomorrow we return to the United States after three incredible weeks. We would like to say thank you to Ms. McNeily-Anta and Ms. Mahler for organizing everything and also to our parents for this experience. Now I can truthfully say that we have been immersed in the Spanish language and in Spanish life.
